The Suggestion that Lit a Torch
Life amid propaganda and resentment
I like to avoid the fray, particularly on social media, which is at times the antitheses of sociability. Yet, as a Jewish lad, I very occasionally find the need to enter the current, given the current set of events, if only momentarily.
A little while ago, I left a Facebook comment on an Ohio art gallery’s post of an oil painting depicting an Arab woman cradling a swaddled form – seemingly that of a dead child. According to commentary by the artist, the image was inspired by a photograph of a young woman named Samia al-Atrash (a journalist) who, I have since discovered, had apparently experienced a bombing raid by the Israel Defense Forces in Rafah in October of 2023, weeks after the bloody Hamas incursion into Israel.
